eyelash extensions training course UK

The demand for Eyelash Extensions is huge!

As you can see, the demand for lash extensions (blue line) is higher than ever, whereas the demand for lash extension courses (red line) has been extremely low throughout the years. This can only mean one thing: There are more and more females interested in getting their lashes done (demand), but the lash techs (supply) are very limited.

The massive dip in interest happened throughout the Covid Lockdown, but the trend resumed straight after.

The graph was taken from Google Trends. Google tracks all the searches made by people and you can check the interest for any term. Click HERE if you’re curious to check it out.

EYELASH TECH SALARY: “How much can I make as a lash tech in the UK?”

Lash extensions are a great way to supplement your income from home or even create a full-time income. You can make up to £1000 / week from lashing once you become established and build your clientele. To achieve this income you must average around 4 clients a day for 5 days a week. (8 hours per day).

As you know, infills are done every 3-4 weeks which means that you can easily build a recurring income through eyelash extensions and also built long-lasting relationships. I have many lash clients that I’ve known since the beginning ( 8 years now ) and the only time they’ve stopped coming was through my maternity leave. And even then… many of my long time loyal clients ave come back. Hence it is important to have appropriate training which will leave you do a good set of extensions every time.

Classic lash prices

As a guide, the average prices for a classic eyelash set vary between £45 and £70 and take up to 1 and a half hours to complete (longer if you’re a beginner). The average price for classic lash infills is around £30 to £50. It takes roughly 1 hour to complete (a bit longer for a beginner).

It is important to master the skill of classic eyelash extensions before you are able to do volume lashes or hybrid. The isolation, preparation, and placement are very important to a good set, and when you are able to achieve these, you may look further into upping your skills with volume sets.

Volume lash prices

Average prices for a volume eyelash set vary between £60-£100 and can take 2-3hours to complete (may take longer for begginers). The average price for an infill vary between £45 to £80 and can take about 2hours. Price may vary depending on your clients needs, whether it is a light set of volumes, or really dramatic set.

Before doing this course, you have to make sure, you are confident with your classic lash extensions. Why? Because, it is extra work to make every fan handmade while also doing the application. If your isolation and placement has not been mastered, you will struggle to have clients that will come back to you regularly, as well as, lashes will keep being damaged.

Knowing that the manual is quite long, I do send it at least 2 weeks prior to your course. This gives enough time to familiarise yourself with what we would put into practice, and have any questions ready for me.

On the day, we go through all the important information you should have read in the manual, and apply the knowledge onto models with my supervision. 99% of the work is done by yourself with my supervision, meaning you do all the practice you need, given any extra tips, which are still under my watch. You then will need to complete some models to show me, where I will keep giving you advice and monitor correct application and isolation. Certification is given, when I can be confident in your skill to not cause damage onto clients.

EYELASH EXPENSES: “How much does it cost to be a lash tech?”

Your initial cost to start a lash business can be anywhere from £600 to £1000 depending on your setup. Let me break down the cost of becoming an eyelash technician:

The cost of eyelash extensions training course

You can start lashing without training, but if it goes wrong, you could potentially damage a lot of lashes, damage eyes, eyesight, work without insurance, and possibly face lawsuits from unhappy clients. Don’t forget, clients talk to their family and friends, meaning, if you cause damage, chances are, alot of people will know about it, and may not have a good reputation to stand with, and therefore may not have the clients to come to you.

Eyelash product cost

Of course, there are some product costs involved with each lash session. I spend roughly £7 per classic lash set on products.

The products you need are:

  • Glue
  • Application tweezers
  • Isolation tweezers
  • Lash shampoo and brush
  • Mini fan
  • Las tray
  • Lash tile
  • Jade stone (or glue ring)
  • Micropore white tape
  • Micropore green tape
  • Under eye lash pads
  • Lash wands
  • Lash remover

The classic lash training course comes with my full kit which is enough for at least 10 classic eyelash extensions. Over the years I’ve worked and tested numerous brands until I’ve discovered what works best for me and creates beautiful and long-lasting eyelashes.

Lash business setup cost:

Your cost of setup varies depending on the type of atmosphere you want to create and whether you are a mobile lash tech, work from home, or from a rented beauty room, but I will break down these costs for you:

  • Mobile lash tech:

This is a great way to start as you will have a higher chance of getting clients. Many women prefer someone that travels to their house for lash extensions. In fact, I’ve done that myself (a mix of mobile and working from home) and it was a great way to get busy with work initially.

Mobile Bed – £50 to £100
Couch rolls – £20 (lasts for a long time)
Travel – varies

  • Work from home:

A cheap and easy way to start lashing. The setup cost and monthly expenses will be minimal. Most women don’t mind coming to your house as long as you have a presentable and somewhat quiet room. I’ve worked from my room for 5 years in the beginning. You have the flexibility to lash part-time or in your spare time. But it’s very possible to build a full-time job lashing if you dedicate yourself.

Bed – £50 to £500
Couch rolls – £20 (lasts for a long time)

  • From a beauty room:

This will look a lot more professional but is only advised if you’ve already built a consistent clientele and would like to take it to the next level. A salon may attract more clients for you so it’s a great way to build your lash business into a full-time job.

Bed: £50 – £500
Couch rolls: £20 (lasts for a long time)
Room rental: 200pm -600pm (based on area and the type of room)

Check your options and don’t be afraid to ask for a room on a part-time basis in the beginning to test the waters.

Lash business insurance cost:

This may be a tricky one to answer. It all depends on where you work, what other services you provide, and what kind of cover you wish to have. Each insurance company will give you different quotes. I provide a list of insurers that are worth calling, listed in the manual. It can be from £70- £400 per year. I do advise all students to call numerous insurers and ask for a quote so you can find which suits you best.

Other important questions and answers

Greta, can I see some of your work? When did you start lashing?

Of course, head over to my Instagram page: www.instagram.com/Glamslayer

And I started lashing in 2013. I completed my course just before I started university. This was going to be my side job to be able to pay my bills while I was living away from home.

I have grown love for it, and as my skills have gotten better, I didnt want to leave lashing. And years later, I am still here, loving lash life.

Greta, why do you teach eyelash extensions? Doesn't that create more competition for you?

I’m not worried about competition because there is enough work out there for everyone. I believe women should support each other and help each other grow. I have always advised and helped other techs where I could, and it was only natural to offer actual an course.

Also, while seeing so many girls wishing to move onto lashing, I felt I could pass my knowledge on to others, and create lash techs that will do a great job. It makes me proud to see my students thrive.

Do I need insurance to be a lash tech?

In short, the answer is YES. Without proper insurance coverage, there are several risks that can arise. If a client who has suffered damages tries to sue an uninsured lash technician,

it can not only result in a significant financial loss but also legal consequences. It is crucial to contact insurers beforehand to inquire about their requirements and obtain a quote to ensure the necessary coverage and protection for both the technician and the client.

Do I need to bring my own models?

It is ideal to bring your own models, especially the first one. That is because with your own model, you may feel more at ease, and the model would know what to expect.

However, I can find models for you if you are not able to find your own. There are no extra charges for that. I try and work with you so we have the best outcomes of the course.

What skills do I need to be a lash tech

You do not need any previous skills in order to become a lash tech. I had absolutely no clue what lashing was about until I was on the course. Once you complete the course, you will have everything you need to become a lash tech.

Do I need a certificate to do eyelash extensions?

In order to work as a lash technician, you need to have insurance. For you to get insurance, you need to have a certification of completing the course of lash extensions. This is provided once you have completed your course with me and can safely do lashes.

Are lash extensions still popular?

I have always said, beauty will never go out of business. We live at an age where women do what is most convenient for them and make them feel good.

Lash extensions are a popular beauty treatment due to their long-lasting nature, with just a monthly top-up needed for maintenance. This makes it a convenient option for those who want to enjoy beautiful lashes without the hassle of daily upkeep.

So yes, Lash extensions are very popular and still rising. I still get clients that never tried lash extensions before!

Is it easy to apply Lash Extensions

No. Unless you have been professionally trained before, lash extension application is hard. Especially if you wish to have correct isolation and placement. Many have said it looks very easy, and many have quit lashing after the course due to the focus and effort it takes.

However, it does become second nature and you can have heartfelt chats with your clients while lashing. It is all about the practice.

Will I be able to create lash sets like you after the course?

Every person is different, meaning every student is different. You may be better than me right after the course or may need extra support. Everyone works differently and learns at a different pace. The ultimate goal is for you to be where you want to be in regard to lashes, and I will be there to help as much as I can.
